HO CHI MINH CITY’S PORT RELOCATION ROADMAP: WHAT BUSINESSES NEED TO KNOW

🚢 To implement the urban spatial planning and seaport development strategy, Ho Chi Minh City is carrying out a roadmap to relocate a number of ports and port clusters away from the city center.

📍 Some port areas and clusters included in the roadmap are:

• Port clusters along the Saigon River in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City

• Truong Tho Port – ICD cluster in Thu Duc City, associated with the development orientation of the city under the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) model

• Tan Thuan – Ben Nghe port area, which is planned to have its operational functions reorganized in the future.

🔎 For import-export businesses, changes in port locations and operational arrangements may lead to adjustments in transportation routes, connection times, container pickup/drop-off arrangements, and logistics costs.

Therefore, staying updated on the planning and relocation roadmap at an early stage will help businesses proactively:

✅ Review their current transportation routes

✅ Develop suitable alternative port options

✅ Optimize inland transportation and warehouse–port connectivity

✅ Proactively manage delivery and pickup schedules and minimize disruptions in the supply chain.

🚛 Proactive logistics is not only about transporting goods on time, but also about the ability to adapt to changes in infrastructure and urban planning.

👉 Import-export businesses should closely monitor implementation milestones to develop suitable logistics plans for each stage.
