DISCOVER THE FLOATING RICE ECOSYSTEM – A FLOOD SEASON WONDER

🌊 When the flood season arrives, alluvial soil carried by the waters spreads across the Mekong Delta fields. This is also when floating rice begins its miraculous journey – rising strongly above the vast water surface.

📏 More than just a special rice variety that can survive in floodwaters 3–4 meters deep and “float” with the rising water level, floating rice fields also form a rich ecosystem where countless species depend on one another, creating sustainable value.

💦 Fish, shrimp, wildlife, and flood-season products find shelter in floating rice fields – providing abundant food sources while turning the fields into a model of “dual cultivation,” fully aligned with nature. Farmers in the Mekong Delta can harvest both rice and aquatic products without intensive care.

🪱 Floating rice serves as a foundation for many other species to thrive. In the dry season, decomposed plant residues enrich the soil, allowing earthworms and symbiotic microorganisms to flourish, thereby improving soil fertility and maintaining a system that is nearly entirely natural.

🌳 The floating rice plant not only withstands the floodwaters but also acts as a “silt trap,” capturing precious alluvium and enriching the soil for the next crop.

🌏 This is a sustainable ecosystem where humans and nature coexist and nurture each other over time – a natural farming model that has existed for centuries in the fertile Mekong Delta, Vietnam.
